Wall-Mounted Coat Rack
  1. Assemble a coat hook by fitting one steel pipe nipple into a flange. Add the 90-degree elbow to the steel nipple on the flange. Add another steel nipple, topped with a cap. Repeat two more times to create three hooks.
  2. Apply a couple coats of spray paint to the coat hooks, and allow them to dry.
  3. Cut 1 x 6 pine board to size with a saw. (Picture shown is approximately 30" wide.)
  4. Sand edges of board, and remove dust with a damp rag.
  5. Put on gloves and apply one coat of wood stain to the front and edges of the pine board with the foam paintbrush. Brush stain in the direction of the wood grain. Let it sit for a few minutes to absorb the color.
  6. Wipe away excess stain with a rag, and repeat step 5 if darker color is desired. Allow it to dry.
  7. Apply polyurethane using the angled brush. Brush in the direction of the wood grain, then allow it to dry for 2-3 hours.
  8. Unscrew flanges from pipe coat hooks, then place flanges in desired arrangement on the wood plank.
  9. Attach flanges to the board with sheet metal screws (four screws per flange) and a screwdriver.
  10. Reattach the pipe coat hooks.
  11.  Hang on the wall by drilling a pilot hole 3” in from each side of the back of the board, and secure using wall anchors and drywall screws.
